About AREd

With the recent rise in research education expectations from some Federal sponsors, in response many institutions of higher learning have sought outside support for the training needs.

The Academy of Research Education (ARED) was launched in 2024 as an initiative of the Office of the Vice President for Research in response to interest from colleagues to participate in the University of Utah’s Office of Research Education (REd).

Established in 2004, REd has been a leader in providing high-quality training for faculty, staff, and students in numerous topics including research ethics, responsible conduct or research, research mentoring, data management, research development, and grant writing.

The Academy of Research Education is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization housed under the University of Utah, which holds a dual tax status as both an IRC Section 115 and IRC Section 501(c)(3) organization. This dual status exempts the University from federal income tax on revenue generated by activities directly related to its educational and research missions, which includes the activities of the AREd.
